Activision have announced that the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise will be made by Infinity Ward, the same developers that made the massively popular Modern Warfare series. This will be Infinity Ward’s first Call of Duty since 2013 when they made Ghosts, which received mix reviews from gamers who expected more from the elite game developers.

I’m hoping for a return to a WW2 or even WW1 setting that the Call of Duty franchise was originally born out of. Can Infinity Ward be the developers to pull this off, as they are previously also the makers of COD 1 and 2 which are both WW2. Can they be the ones to bring COD back to its roots?

Activision’s CEO Eric Hirshberg spoke with IGN at E3 and talked about the possibility of Call of Duty returning to the World War II era, as many fans have been asking for a return to this period. So whether it’s 2016 or 2017 it’s highly likely that the extremely popular Call of Duty franchise will be set in WW2, which will be a first for next gen consoles.

  1. All good.I knew because I played a LOT of Call of Duty 2 on PC back in the day – both campaign and multiplayer (on dial up!) were excellent. Even though Ghosts was a terrible game, its underlying net code (and thus hit detection) were excellent – much better than all Treyarch and Sledgehammer made Call of Duties. So if they did make a WW2 game and learned the lessons from Ghosts it could indeed be awesome. I would love a WW2 COD.

Got something to say about this?
